Ketter Hits for Cycle as Kewaskum Tops Benders
The Kewaskum A’s traveled to West Bend on Friday night to take on the Benders in a non-league game and pulled away late for a 14-1 victory. With the win the A’s improve to 10-1 on the year. Jake Lathers picked up his first victory of the year tossing 7 solid innings. He gave up one unearned run on 4 hits and struck out 13 batters. Steve Ketter starred at the plate going 4x5, while hitting for the cycle in the process. His three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth capped his bid for the cycle.

The A’s got on the board in the 2nd inning with an Adam Sarauer RBI double to leftfield. It plated Dan Shea who had reached earlier in the inning on a single. Jon Olla would later knock Sarauer in on an infield single and the A’s were up 2-0 after two innings. The Benders answered back with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. The first batter of the inning reached via an error and would score on a suicide squeeze to cut the Kewaskum lead to 2-1.

Kewaskum tacked two more runs on in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a RBI double by Olla and RBI triple by Ketter. The A’s looked to take control of the game in the sixth inning. They began the inning with four consecutive hits which led to four more runs and built the lead to 9-1. Ketter led off the inning with a single and scored on a Jason Strobel RBI double to right. Dan Shea followed with an RBI single to score one more and Jake Flood (filling a spot on the roster for the night) connected for a double to plate one more. Adam Sarauer and Jim Ziegler followed with RBI groundouts to round out the scoring.

The A’s put five more runs up in the 8th to put the game away. With two outs, Ziegler knocked a double to right and Jake Panzer worked his way on for a walk. Olla reached on an error by the shortstop to load the bases for Austin Sarauer. Sarauer followed with a 2 RBI single back up the middle to set the stage for Ketter. Needing only a home run for the cycle, Ketter delivered with a blast to right. He would finish the night with 4 RBI’s.

Mother Nature has kept the A’s off the field in recent days, but they will attempt a return to action on Tuesday night in Johnson Creek. Game time is set for 8pm. The A’s will also play on Friday night in Plymouth for the annual Plymouth Tournament. The A’s will be playing the Cedarburg Mercs at 6:00pm. Kewaskum returns to Rock River action on Sunday, hosting Hartford at 1:30pm.
